CHARLOTTE DUMAS
Charlotte Dumas (Vlaardinegen, NK, 1977) è una fotografa che nel suo lavoro predilige la raffigurazione degli animali.
L’idea di partenza è quella secondo cui lo stato dell’umanità possa essere letto e studiato dal modo in cui ci relazioniamo con gli animali. La scelta del soggetto riguarda direttamente il modo in cui utilizziamo, definiamo e coesistiamo con animali specifici, assegnando loro vari simbolismi legati alle nostre riflessioni personali. Il divario che esiste attualmente tra gli animali usati e visti come una risorsa alimentare da un lato e l’uso antropomorfo di essi dall’altro (come spesso sono raffigurati nel linguaggio visivo) contribuisce a una relazione sempre più contraddittoria. Quando si tratta di argomenti sugli animali, le emozioni spesso aumentano. Sembra che meno siamo in contatto diretto con loro, più perdiamo la prospettiva della loro vera capacità e ciò che significano per noi e noi per loro.
Dal 2012 ha iniziato a utilizzare l’immagine in movimento insieme alla fotografia. Il suo primo film “Anima” (2012) mostra i cavalli del cimitero nazionale di Arlington negli Stati Uniti mentre si stanno addormentando di notte nelle loro stalle. Altri cortometraggi includono “The widest Prairies” (2013) sui cavalli selvaggi del Nevada che vagano alla periferia di Reno e “Carson City e Work Horse” (2015), un racconto di un giorno di lavoro di due cavalli nel bosco della Svezia settentrionale.
